Residential ANUGYAN programme aims to equip engineers and professionals with industry-ready nuclear technology skills as India expands its civil nuclear energy sector
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and the crimson energy experts pvt. ltd. (CEEPL) has launched ANUGYAN-Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP), which is the first programme of its kind in India aimed at preparing engineers and industry professionals for the growing civil nuclear industry in India.
The programme was initiated at the IIT Hyderabad in the presence of industry and academia seniors on August 3, 2026. The project is expected to boost the indigenous capacity in nuclear engineering education, human resource development and clean energy technologies in India.
ANUGYAN has been created to be a totally residential, three-month course that brings together the teaching and learning prowess of IIT Hyderabad with the experience of the senior members of the crimson energy experts team. The programme aims to close the gap between academic education and application in industry by providing technical knowledge and exposure to the industry.
Industry-friendly training of nuclear professionals
The programme has come at a time when India is liberalizing its civil nuclear power sector and planning to achieve a generation capacity from around 8.8 GWe to 100 GWe by 2047. It has been designed to cater for the demand for specialised engineering manpower needed for this expansion.
This module covers reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radiation shielding, small modular reactors (SMRs), nuclear safety, quality assurance, engineering design, AERB regulatory compliance and simulator-based training. This programme will also provide opportunities for engineering graduates, working professionals, PSU executives, EPC contractors and industrial equipment manufacturers. The students who finish the course will be awarded a certificate from the IIT Hyderabad and crimson energy experts.
Aims and objectives of the programme
R. D. Mane (Retd.), President-Nuclear Division, CEEPL said, "Nuclear technology execution demands strict compliance, quality assurance and specialized engineering design. Through ANUGYAN, our aim is to train engineers who can navigate AERB regulations, optimize equipment design and deliver high-reliability execution for next-generation nuclear deployments, including Small Modular Reactors and floating nuclear power plants.”
“The programme combines rigorous coursework with practical case studies delivered by veterans with decades of experience at premier Department of Atomic Energy institutions such as BARC and NPCIL. We are delighted to partner with IIT Hyderabad in developing world-class nuclear engineering talent for India's future," he added.
Agreement expands nuclear research ecosystem
The launch of ANUGYAN also comes on the heels of an agreement signed between IIT Hyderabad, dassault systèmes and crimson energy experts during Bharat Innovate 2026, to establish the centre of design excellence in nuclear engineering (CODENE).
The first batch began on August 3, with students from engineering institutes, public sector organisations, and industries from all over the nation. The programme is expected to strengthen India's nuclear engineering ecosystem by preparing deployment-ready professionals for research institutions, PSUs, EPC companies, advanced manufacturing industries and emerging nuclear technology enterprises.
