IIT Jammu confers 420 degrees at 7th convocation, honours students with gold, silver medals

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu held its 7th Convoation Ceremony and conferred 420 degrees, including 209 BTech, 124 MTech, 23 MSc and 64 PhD degrees. The ceremony was attended by graduating students, their families, faculty members and distinguished guests at the IIT Jammu campus.

The convocation was addressed by Shankar M. Venugopal, Vice President, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Mahindra Research Valley, who was the chief guest, and Amitabh Ranjan, Vice Chairman, Pan IIT Alumni India, who was the guest of honour.

Venugopal urges graduates to innovate

Addressing the graduating students, Venugopal encouraged them to make use of opportunities created by advances in technology and innovation. He also urged the graduates to remain connected with IIT Jammu and contribute to the institute as mentors, collaborators and ambassadors.

He highlighted India's potential to convert challenges into opportunities through innovation, determination and collective effort. He also encouraged the graduates to value the experiences and relationships developed during their time at the institute.

Ranjan congratulated the graduating students and stressed the importance of remaining connected with the IIT ecosystem. He encouraged them to carry forward the values, knowledge and spirit of excellence developed at IIT Jammu into their professional journeys.

Manoj Singh Gaur, director, IIT Jammu, congratulated the graduating batch and highlighted the importance of curiosity, resilience and purpose in building meaningful careers and lives.

He encouraged students to continue learning, create value through their work and use their knowledge and innovations for the benefit of society. He also asked them to remain connected to their roots and maintain relationships beyond their professional networks.

IIT Jammu unveils 'Antardṛṣṭi' sculpture

A major highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of ‘Antardṛṣṭi’, meaning “inner vision”, a sculpture dedicated to the graduating class of 2026.

The sculpture represents the moment before graduates leave the institute and begin their professional journeys. According to IIT Jammu, it conveys themes of self-trust, courage and aspiration and encourages graduates to look within when they face uncertainty.

The institute also honoured students for academic excellence through its President, Director and Institute Gold and Silver Medals.

Vivek Kumar Shandilya from the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering received the President Gold Medal for securing the highest CGPA among BTech graduates.

The Director Gold Medal was awarded to Ayush Raj from the Department of Chemical Engineering for the best overall performance.

Among postgraduate students, Mohammad Shamsul Haq, MTech Civil Engineering , received the Institute Gold Medal for the highest CGPA among MTech graduates. Sheikh Aabid Nisar, MSc Chemistry, received the Institute Gold Medal for the highest CGPA among MSc graduates.

The Institute Silver Medals among BTech graduates were awarded to Ayush Raj in Chemical Engineering, Khushboo in Civil Engineering, Chaitanya Tandon in Computer Science and Engineering, Nageshwar Kumar in Electrical Engineering and Harshit Beri in Mechanical Engineering.

In the postgraduate category, the Institute Silver Medals were awarded to Shivangi Sharma (MTech Chemical Engineering), Anshu Kumari (MTech Computer Science and Engineering), Sandeep Kumar (MTech Electrical Engineering), Binod Kumar (MTech Mechanical Engineering) and Akshita (MSc Physics).
