IIT JEE: Foreign students from 25 countries will be able to write engineering entrance exam

Try NowNEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) will become global as the union government is planning to hold the IIT JEE exam in 25 countries simultaneously, say reports.

The IIT JEE exams were already conducted previously in 12 countries. In the previous year, the exam was also conducted in Kuala Lumpur and Lagos, The IIT JEE exams are expected to be conducted in countries such as the US, China, UAE, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar among others. However, this system will not be applicable for admission to the IITs.

Under the initiative, candidates will be facilitated with 3,900 undergraduate and 1,300 postgraduate seats. These seats will be reserved in engineering institutes such as the National Institute of Technology (NIT), National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IITs), School of Planning and Architecture and other technical institutions funded by the union government. In these institutions, about 15 percent of seats are reserved for NRIs and foreign students.

As per reports, Indian Ambassadors across the world have been contacted regarding this opportunity. Countries such as Japan, Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Spain, the UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, Thailand, the UAE, Argentina, Brazil, Greece, Cyprus, Iceland and Turkey have shown interest in this initiative.
