IIT Kanpur signs agreement with GSV to boost transport research, student training and logistics innovation

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has signed an agreement with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) to work together on education, training, and research in transportation and logistics. The agreement was signed on March 24, 2026, and is aimed at building stronger links between academic learning and real-world industry needs.
The agreement was signed by IIT Kanpur director Manindra Agrawal and GSV vice chancellor Manoj Choudhary, in the presence of senior faculty members. Both institutions see this as an opportunity to create more hands-on learning experiences and expand research in key sectors.
Officials said the collaboration will focus on areas like transportation systems, logistics, and related technologies. It is also expected to encourage knowledge-sharing and joint work between students and faculty from both sides.
Under this partnership, GSV students will get a chance to train at IIT Kanpur and use its advanced lab facilities. They will also be exposed to specialised areas such as aerospace, giving them a broader understanding of the field.
The institutions will also work together on research, especially in areas like railway systems and other modes of transport. The idea is to promote practical, interdisciplinary work that connects different sectors such as rail, road, aerospace, and marine.
The collaboration will also look at using modern technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, and intelligent transport systems. These tools are expected to play an important role in improving how transportation networks function.

“This collaboration will drive the development of indigenous technologies across transportation sectors,” the official press release reads.
The agreement is also expected to support the development of homegrown technologies in the transport sector, with a focus on improving speed, safety, and reliability. It could also open up opportunities for exporting Indian innovations to other countries.
Along with this, the partnership includes faculty exchange programmes and training opportunities for students. This also supports the vision of the PM Gati Shakti Master Plan by advancing indigenous technologies and manufacturing.
