IIT Kanpur to launch NMTronics CoE for electronics manufacturing, skills development

IIT-K: The centre will be launched in August 2024 offering support to the institute's curriculum and advanced certifications for professionals.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) and NMTronics India Pvt Ltd have announced the launch of the ‘NMTronics Center of Excellence for Electronics Manufacturing and Skills Development’. The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by promoting research, innovation, and skill development in electronics manufacturing.
As per the official press release, the centre is expected to be operational by August 2024 on the IIT Kanpur campus. It will support IIT Kanpur's course curriculum, provide advanced certification programs for industry professionals, and serve as a new product introduction (NPI) site for startups and small businesses, the institute said in a statement.
Additionally, the centre will facilitate development in semiconductor technologies, embedded systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI), translating manufacturing concepts into tangible reality, the institute said.
Emphasising the significance of the centre’s role in fostering industry-academia partnership, IIT Kanpur director S Ganesh said: "This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to drive socio-economic development through research and industry collaboration."

Focus on technological advancements
As part of the collaboration, NMTronics India will provide technical expertise, and access to its state-of-the-art facilities for collaborative projects with IIT Kanpur. The centre will have cutting-edge technology, including a fully automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) line, to promote research and development collaboration and advanced learning through IIT Kanpur's programmes, the official statement read.
Speaking at the event, managing director of NMTronics India Pvt. Ltd Soni Saran Singh said: "This initiative highlights our unwavering commitment to driving innovation and creating value for our customers. By partnering with IIT Kanpur, we are harnessing the collective expertise of academia and industry to fuel technological advancements and shape the future of the electronic industry."
Dean of resources and alumni at IIT Kanpur Kantesh Balani said: “This centre will promote strong industry-academia engagement and will play a pivotal role in manpower training with current industry practices for the electronic industry.”
