IIT Roorkee MTech Admission 2026: GATE cut-offs highest for MTech CSE; electronics, electrical follow

IIT graduates and female candidates eligible under the Golden Girl Scheme will be offered direct admission without GATE scores, provided they meet the academic eligibility criteria.
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) offers 57 postgraduate (PG) programmes based on a valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2026) score, which will be normalised to shortlist candidates for MTech admission 2026.
GATE cut-off marks for IIT Roorkee show MTech Computer Science and Engineering and allied courses continued to record the highest qualifying marks. MTech CSE closed at 71.20896 GATE normalised score – highest among the core engineering courses.
Other engineering branches such as electrical engineering and electronics and communication engineering also recorded the highest cut-offs.
Notably, specialised programmes linked to data analytics, control systems, and communication technologies also closed at relatively higher scores compared to mechanical engineering and civil engineering.
IIT Roorkee MTech admission categories
In addition to GATE-qualified candidates , IIT graduates and female applicants eligible under the Golden Girl Scheme will be offered direct admission, provided they meet the academic eligibility criteria.
GATE-qualified candidates – Applicants belonging to general, Gen-EWS, and OBC-NCL category should have obtained at least 60% marks or CGPA of 6.00 on a 10 point scale at the qualifying degree level; but for SC, ST, PwD category candidates, the percentage is 55% or 5.50 CGPA. The marks awarded for the qualifying degree will be considered for eligibility.
IIT graduates – Direct admission without GATE scores will be offered to IIT graduates with a minimum CGPA of 8.00 on a 10 point scale. Eligible candidates will be offered supernumerary seats.
Golden Girl Scheme – Female candidates who are first-rank holders or gold medalists from IITs or institutions ranked within the top 50 in the latest NIRF rankings will be eligible. These seats will also be supernumerary, and candidates appearing for final semester exams will not be considered under the scheme.
IIT Roorkee MTech admission portal usually opens in March and closes in April. Classes for the new academic session will likely commence in July.

MTech Architecture and Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) were also popular choices compared to most core engineering courses, with GATE cut-off fixed at 74.3012 and 79.51807 respectively. Last year’s course-wise IIT Roorkee MTech GATE cut-offs for all categories are given below:
