NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has signed an agreement with the National Institute of Design Haryana at Kurukshetra, to collaborate on research, curriculum development and other academic activities.
The “institutes will also help each-other in curriculum development for their respective courses and share teaching responsibilities in relevant domains,” said a statement issued by IIT Roorkee. “They will also organise workshops on topics of mutual interest for students and faculty members. The institutions will also collaborate in research and consultancy programs sponsored by national or international funding agencies.” In addition, there will be joint workshops and short-term courses.
Student exchange, design
The agreement paves the way for student exchange as well as collaboration and partnership on internships, projects, master’s dissertation, and doctoral theses. “The institutes have also agreed to offer modular or elective courses to students in the area of mutual interest of both the institutes,” said the statement.
The agreement will also help the engineering institute with the two new master’s programmes that it will launch in the next academic year – Master of Design and Master of Innovation Management. “Being a design education based institute NID Haryana, Kurukshetra could be an effective partner in implementation of the proposed programs, while NID Haryana… [will benefit] from the vast resources in the field of architecture, planning and engineering of the 173 years-old institute,” the statement further said.
The agreement will be valid for an initial period of three years after which it may be renewed with “mutual consent”.
“With the establishment of our Design Innovation Centre and its future roadmap of an enhanced footprint, the [memorandum of understanding] would provide a platform for synergy between the two institutions,” said Ajit K. Chaturvedi, director-IITR, in the statement.
