IMU alumni, IME India to establish research centre in Kolkata, offer two fellowships

NEW DELHI : Indian Maritime University (IMU) has signed a couple of agreements today for establishing a research centre of excellence in Kolkata and for providing fellowships. An alumni meet was held by the university on August 5 at Mumbai Cricket Association Recreation Centre.
The sponsorship of Rs 18 lakh is being established for two Junior Research Fellows (JRF), who will pursue research studies at IMU. Dr Malini V Shankar, vice chancellor of IMU and Sri Amulya Mohapatra, director and vice president, Foresight Group signed the agreement at the event.
A notable alumni of IMU Ravi Mehrotra, is set to invest USD 0.72 million to establish the building of R K Mehrotra Centre of Excellence in Maritime at the Kolkata campus of the university.
Sri RK Malhotra, group managing director of RK Malhotra Holding Pvt. Ltd (RKMHL) said, “I am excited to support Indian Maritime University in its mission to advance Research and Innovation in the maritime sector.”
Dr Malini V Shankar,vice chancellor of Indian Maritime University said, The press conference was a significant event for us, underscoring our vision to drive educational and research outcomes in the maritime ecosystem.
Shankar adds, “We are elated and thankful to partner with the RKMHL group for the development of the Centre of Excellence and are looking forward to creating a budding network of young researchers through our joint venture with IME.”
