Jamia Millia Islamia appoints 161 faculty members during VC Najma Akhtar’s period

JMI has appointed 698 staff members, including teaching and non-teaching posts under the direct recruitment and promotion schemes.

NEW DELHI: The Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) university said that it has appointed 161 new members of teaching faculty under the direct recruitment category. These posts have been filled in the JMI under the period of current vice-chancellor Najma Akhtar, who was appointed to the post in April 2019.

These teaching faculty members were selected through 154 proper selection committees. Of these 53 are women faculty members. Moreover, the university has appointed 698 staff members, including teaching and non-teaching posts, under Direct recruitment and promotion schemes.

JMI promoted 372 faculty members

The university has also promoted 372 members of teaching faculty to the posts of professors and associate Professors and 160 assistant professors to associate professor (stage 2 and stage 3) during the period. A total of 131 women members of the teaching faculty who got promoted under the above categories. These promotions were made under the career advancement scheme (CAS) and dynamic assured career progression (DACP) Scheme,

The university said, even during the Covid-19 pandemic the JMI conducted online proper selection committees to ensure that the recruitment and promotion process did not get affected.

VC Najma Akhtar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the university to competently select and appoint employees in various categories under mission mode recruitment process. “It is the first and foremost duty of the VC to give the university the best members of teaching faculty and non-teaching staff,” she added.

Recently, the JMI bagged the second rank among Indian institutions in the London-based Times Higher Education's World University Rankings 2024. The university has been placed in the 501-600 band by the international ranking agency for the second consecutive year.
