IIT JEE Advanced 2026 : The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has released the question paper for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026 papers 1 and 2 on the official website at jeeadv.ac.in. The JEE Advanced 2026 exam has concluded for both sessions on May 17, across 221 cities in India and two international centres. The examination was held in computer-based test (CBT) mode in two shifts, from 9 am to 12 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

As per the initial reactions from students, subject experts and coaching analysts, JEE Advanced 2026 was rated moderately to highly challenging overall, with many candidates describing both papers as lengthy, conceptually intensive and time-consuming.

Detailed paper analysis, memory-based questions and unofficial answer keys by coaching institutes and subject experts are now expected to be released to help candidates evaluate their performance and estimate probable scores.

JEE Advanced 2026 Paper 1 Review

The JEE Advanced 2026 Paper 1, conducted by IIT Roorkee, was rated moderate to difficult by most students and coaching experts. The paper followed the traditional IIT Advanced pattern with multiple marking schemes, including full marks, partial marking and negative marking.

As per the student reactions and subject matter analysis, the paper consisted of four sections featuring integer-type questions, matrix match questions, multiple-type questions and single-correct MCQs. Physics emerged as the toughest subject in Paper 1, while Chemistry was considered comparatively easier and scored higher. Mathematics was moderate in difficulty but lengthy for many candidates.

Key highlights from Paper 1 include;

  • Physics requires strong conceptual clarity and problem-solving ability
  • Chemistry featured several direct and NCERT-linked questions
  • Mathematics was calculation-heavy and time-consuming
  • Students reported the overall paper to be moderately challenging
  • Multiple marking schemes increased complexity and pressure

Keshav Agarwal, vice president of the Coaching Federation of India, said the examination reflected the “IIT stamp and standard” usually associated with JEE Advanced papers.

JEE Advanced 2026 Paper 2 Review

Paper 2 of JEE Advanced 2026 was considered tougher than Paper 1 by a large number of students. Subject experts described the paper as lengthy, conceptually demanding and more calculation-intensive overall.

Physics was widely rated as the most difficult section in Paper 2 due to lengthy numerical and analytical problems. Chemistry was viewed as the easiest and most scoring section with several direct NCERT-based questions, while Mathematics was described as manageable and comparatively easier than expected.

Key highlights from Paper 2 include;

  • Physics emerged as the toughest subject overall
  • Chemistry remained the most scoring section
  • Mathematics was easier compared to Paper 1
  • Paper pattern remained largely similar to the morning shift
  • Comprehensive-type questions appeared in a dedicated section

Overall, JEE Advanced 2026 maintained its reputation for testing conceptual depth, analytical thinking and time management across both papers.

JEE Advanced exam pattern 2026

The JEE Advanced 2026 exam consisted of two compulsory three-hour papers carrying a combined total of 360 marks. Conducted in CBT mode, the exam included 108 questions overall, with each paper containing 54 questions distributed equally across Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
