JEE Main 2022 to have 75% marks eligibility criteria?

NEW DELHI: The eligibility criteria of 75% qualifying marks in Class 12 for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main seems to have taken a U-turn with the re-constitution of Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) for engineering admissions in the academic year 2022-23.

According to CSAB’s notification dated March 22, “For the candidates to qualify for admission in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and such Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) whose admissions are based on JEE ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th Class exam conducted by the respective boards. For SC, ST students, the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th Class exam.”

The Joint Admission Board (JAB) of IITs and CSAB of NITs had entered into an agreement in 2015-16 to facilitate the joint seat allocation and counselling through Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA).

According to the eligibility criteria for admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating through CSAB mentioned on the JEE Main 2022 official website, “Admission to BE/BTech/BArch/BPlanning courses in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating through Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on All India Rank subject to the conditions as decided by the CSAB. For eligibility regarding details, candidates may refer to the website https://csab.nic.in/.”

On March 2, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had removed 75% marks criteria from the minimum eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2022.

In December 2021, several JEE Main 2022 aspirants had campaigned on Twitter demanding cancellation of 75% eligibility criteria and four attempts.
