Download EBookNEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency has made changes in the tie-breaker rule of JEE Main 2022. The changes have been notified in the information brochure. The NTA has brought back the age factor as the criteria for breaking ties. The age factor was scrapped in the year 2021 but brought back this year as a major amendment.

Moreover, the authorities have introduced application numbers in ascending order as other criteria. In case, two or more candidates score the same marks and the tie is unable to resolve by other means then the candidate who has applied before for JEE Main exam will be given preference over the others.
JEE Main 2022: Tie-breaker rule
The tie between candidates obtaining equal JEE Main scores will be resolved in the following manner in descending order:
1. Score in Mathematics, followed by
2. Score in Physics, followed by
3. Score in Chemistry, followed by
4. Candidate with less ratio of a number of attempted incorrect answers, followed by
5. Candidate with less ratio of a number of attempted incorrect answers in Mathematics, followed by
6. Candidate with less ratio of a number of attempted incorrect answers in Physics, followed by
7. Candidate with less ratio of a number of attempted incorrect answers in Chemistry, followed by
8. Older in Age, followed by
9. Application Number in ascending order
The authorities will conduct the JEE Main 2022 exam in two sessions. Session 1 will be conducted from June 20 to 29 while session 2 will be conducted from July 21 to 30. This year, there will be a negative marking in both section A and section B. For section B, the answer should be rounded off to the nearest integer.
