JEE Main 2023: Bombay High Court to hear 75% eligibility criteria plea tomorrow

NEW DELHI: In latest Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023 news, Bombay High Court will be hearing the matter related to the JEE Main Eligibility Criteria on Monday, April 24. The petitioner stated that the eligibility is not justified and must be relaxed or removed. "What is the purpose for giving 75 percent for twelfth standard? There is a qualifying examination," the court asked National Testing Agency in a previous hearing.

JEE Main 2023 latest updates

As per the current rules, NTA requires students to score at least 75% in their Class 12 board examinations or are required to be in the top 20 percentile of their education boards to be eligible to appear in the JEE Main 2023 examinations. The petitioner states that this requirement is unfair to the students.

“The marks scored by them is not a true reflection of their actual ability therefore those students with less marks than the eligibility criteria (75%) for this year’s examinations can score very high marks in the upcoming JEE Main 2023, and if a fair chance is denied to them that will affect the future (of) lakhs of bright (students)”, says the PIL filed by the petitioners. The students not only want to relax the eligibility criteria, but also will be requesting for a third attempt in May 2023.

The NTA has concluded the JEE Main exam 2023 for both sessions in January and April. Students currently are waiting for the agency to declare the JEE Main 2023 session 2 results on the official website- jeemain.nta.nic.in. It is expected that the high court will be announcing a final verdict on the 75% criteria tomorrow.
