NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has removed the provision of giving priority to candidates older in age from the tie-breaking policy for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE 2021) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2021).
As lakhs of students appear every year for the engineering and medical entrance examinations, it is possible for candidates to score same marks. In such cases, the NTA follows the standard tie-breaking policy. This year, the official information brochure of both JEE 2021 and NEET 2021 exams does not mention the age criteria for breaking ties to assign ranks for candidates.
The method used by NTA to prepare the rank list for JEE 2021 in case of a tie between candidates obtaining equal NTA scores in BE/ BTech is as follows.
NTA score in Mathematics, followed by
NTA score in Physics, followed by
NTA score in Chemistry, followed by
Candidates having a lesser ratio of negative to positive responses
In 2020, however, candidates older in age were given priority.
In case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks/percentile score in the NEET (UG) - 2021, the inter-se-merit will be determined as follows
Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany and Zoology) in the test, followed by,
Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the test, followed by
Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the test.
The tie-breaking criteria for NEET 2021 also do not mention the age factor, according to the information brochure released this year.
The NTA has begun the last phase of JEE Main 2021 today. The JEE Main session 4 will be held on August 26, 27, 31, and September 1 and 2. While the NEET 2021 exam is scheduled for September 12.
