JMI launches RCI-accredited advanced diploma in child guidance and counselling

The two-semester JMI diploma programme opens with an orientation where officials outline course expectations and speakers cover child development, protection, special needs and mental health.
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has launched a two-semester advanced diploma course in child guidance and counselling under the department of psychology. The programme is accredited by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and opened with an orientation programme for the first batch of students.
As per the institute, the launch follows a detailed accreditation process and several rounds of internal review. Vice Chancellor Mazhar Asif and Registrar Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi supported the Department through each stage.
Opening the orientation programme, Rizvi said, “Maintaining faith in higher powers can help reduce anxiety and stress.” He noted the effort put in by the Department in securing RCI approval and added that the administration will “extend complete support” for the programme.

Department outlines course launch details
Faculty of Social Sciences Dean Mohd. Muslim Khan outlined Jamia’s academic journey and conveyed his best wishes to the newly admitted students. Head of the Department Samina Bano welcomed the participants and thanked the university administration for its support.
The institute states that she and Diploma Coordinator Sheema Aleem acknowledged the work of P Bharti Sharma, Faizullah Khan and Prateek Kumar during the accreditation process.
Aleem said the diploma is among the limited programmes of its nature in central universities and aims to prepare trained counsellors. She added that the course is structured to help maintain standardised practices in the field.
The orientation programme included sessions by Vandana Thapar, Rekha Sharma Sen, Zubair Meenai, Jagriti Singh, Rahul Chandok and Bilal Ahmed. They spoke on child development, child protection, support for children with special needs, mental health conditions in children and substance abuse.
