JMI students protest over ‘arbitrary’ eviction notices to women hostellers; AISA, SFI, SIO join agitation

Students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) have staged a protest at the university campus over alleged arbitrary eviction notices issued to women hostellers, according to the All India Students’ Association (AISA).

Students organisations, including AISA , All Indian Revolutionary Students’ Organisation (AIRSO), Fraternity Movement, Muslim Students’ Federation (MSF), National Students’ Union of India ( NSUI ), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), and Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) organised the protest at the central canteen area near Gate number 7, according to an official statement.

Over a hundred students are protesting against the eviction notices after women hostellers raised concerns over the quality of food and basic living conditions in the university’s women’s hostels.

The JMI students alleged that the university was ignoring the women hosteller’s complaints, and instead of addressing their concerns regarding hostel facilities, the university administration was taking action against students who raised grievances.

The student organisation has described the notices as “unjust and arbitrary” and demanded their immediate withdrawal, the notice read. “The student community stands united in solidarity with the female hostellers,” AISA said in its statement.

The organisation has also stated that the student groups would intensify their protest across the campus if the eviction notices were not withdrawn.

As per the AISA’s statement, the university has not given any response over the students protests.
