JoSAA Counselling 2026: NIT Rourkela CSE maintains strong demand with open category closing rank at 7853

JoSAA Counselling 2026: BTech aspirants securing a rank equal to or below last year’s 7853 may have higher chances of securing CSE seats at NIT Rourkela for the 2026-27 academic year.
Securing a BTech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) seat at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) has remained consistently competitive over the past three years. The closing rank for the CSE programme at NIT Rourkela in 2025 was 7853, while it stood at 7807 in 2024, and around 8282 in 2023.
The stability near the 8000 mark shows the popularity of the engineering institute’s CSE programme. BTech aspirants securing a rank equal to or below last year’s rank may have higher chances to secure CSE seat s at NIT Rourkela for the 2026-27 academic year.
According to the JoSAA counselling data for 2025, the CSE programme at NIT Rourkela remained highly competitive across categories.
For female-only candidates in the Open category, the closing rank stood at 16197 in 2025, a major increase from 12843 in 2024 and 11082 in 2023, showing a broader admission window for women applicants.
For admission to various BTech programmes, the JoSAA round 2 mock seat allotment list 2026 will be declared today. The deadline to register and fill choices is June 11, as per the schedule.

As per the table given above, the OBC-NCL category recorded a closing rank of 4,440 in 2025, compared with 4,455 in 2024 and 3,601 in 2023. For SC candidates, the closing rank was 1,718 in 2025 against 2,401 in 2024 and 2,064 in 2023. The ST category closed at rank 729 in 2025, improving significantly from 1,359 in 2024, though remaining below the 2023 closing rank of 900.
