Teachers across government schools receive special training in bilingual teaching methods, focusing on communication, techniques, and balanced language use.
The School Education and Literacy Department Karnataka has announced it will introduce bilingual classes in all government schools across 15 districts from academic year 2026-27. This initiative is part of government’s larger effort to improve students’ language skills and strengthen basic education. Under the new system, students studying in government schools will learn in both English and their regional language. This will help them understanding subjects better while also becoming more confident in speaking English.
Under bilingual classes, teachers will use both languages in classrooms, helping students understand subjects easily while slowly improving their English-speaking skills. The government has also said that English lessons will begin from Lower Kindergarten (LKG).

Tweet posted on platform X (originally in Kannada) reads, "English lessons will begin from LKG itself, and government school children will henceforth learn to speak English with confidence. Enrollment in government schools has begun; you should enroll your children in government schools for free education."
The tweet further reads, "Bilingual classes are being started from this academic year (2026-27) in all government schools across 15 districts of the state. For this purpose, appropriate training has also been provided to the teachers. English lessons will start from LKG, and government school children will henceforth learn to speak English with confidence. Enrollment in government schools has started; you should enroll your children in government schools for free education."
Teachers in government schools have already received training for bilingual teaching. The training focused on classroom communication, teaching methods, and how to use both languages smoothly during lessons.

In line with NEP
The government clarified that regional languages will not be replaced. Students will continue learning in their mother tongue while also improving their English understanding and speaking skills.
