Lucknow University to start MA programme in Avadh Culture: Report
The Lucknow University announced reopening of affiliated colleges for offline classes from February 7 while following COVID-19 protocols.

NEW DELHI: The Lucknow University is going to launch a masters programme in Avadh Culture (Urdu) from the next academic year, the Hans India reported. The course will be in line with the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, it said.

"From Qissagoi, the traditional art of storytelling, to writing shayari to sitting on a Dastarkhwan, understanding Sufiana Kalam, attire, food, language, festivities, everything has been included in the syllabus of the course,” Professor Abbas Raza Nayyar was quoted as saying. "By introducing a detailed study on Avadh culture, we hope to make LU a centre for the teaching and learning of our tehzeeb," Nayyar added as per the report.
The MA programme will reportedly offer 60 seats and the curriculum will include attires such as do-palli caps, tunic, sherwani, wide patch pyjamas of men and heavy embroidery work on women clothing to Avadh flavours of bakarkhani, sheermal, kulcha, kebab, biryani and Kashmiri chai.

The professor explained that with the help of the course which is not only popular in India but across the world, students can do research on lost art forms and establish their own business, according to the report.
Further, students can write poetry and books under the guidance of experts and famous academicians who will be called by the university to share their knowledge, the report said.

The syllabus of the programme will soon be presented in the board meeting for approval, said Nayyar, as per the report.
