MBBS academic session 2021 will begin from February 14: NMC

The NMC said that the delay in starting the MBBS courses was due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It has also announced a tentative academic curriculum.
NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced today that the academic session for the MBBS courses for the year 2021 will begin from February 14 due to the delay caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The NMC’s latest notification read, “There has been a delay in the starting of MBBS courses on account of Covid pandemic in the year 2021. Therefore, National Medical Commission has decided that the academic session for the MBBS course for the year 2021 shall commence from 14th February 2022.”

The medical commission said that the academic curriculum for the undergraduate courses should be completed within the stipulated time.
It further said that “the foundation course of dedicated one month has been subsumed within first professional of eleven months”.
The foundation course for the MBBS course will be covered after the usual teaching hours or on weekends or holidays.
MBBS Courses: Academic Curriculum
As per the new notification released by the NMC, the first professional has been compressed to 11 months instead of 13 months.
Vacations have also been curtailed during first, second and third professions by one month. “Therefore each subsequent professional phase of training has been compressed to by one month only.”

MBBS students should note that the final professional examinations will take place in June 2026. The NMC said that it has tried not to curtail practical and clinical postings. Internships will remain for one year only.
“Even though it appears that the course duration has been shortened, actual teaching and training hours have been preserved through absorption of buffer time available during the course such as dedicated one-month foundation course and vacations.
