Emphasising that the MBBS internship stipend in medical colleges across Madhya Pradesh is lowest in the country, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has urged the government to increase the stipend for MBBS intern doctors across the state.

The medical association has written a letter to Rajendra Shuka, deputy chief minister and medical education and health minister, requesting him to increase the MBBS internship stipend from Rs 14,377 to Rs 30,000 per month.

Stating that the current stipend is “grossly inadequate” in the present economic situation, the doctor’s group said: “MBBS interns are indispensable pillars of our healthcare system. They provide round-the-dock services in emergency departments, wards, labour rooms, operation theatres, and intensive care units while simultaneously undergoing rigorous clinical training.”

Ensure timely disbursement of MBBS stipend: FAIMA to MP govt

Questioning the differences of MBBS internship stipend in MP and that of other states, FAIMA added: “While medical education costs continue to rise, interns struggle to meet basic expenses including accommodation, transportation, food, and academic requirements. Such inadequate financial support adversely affects the morale and well-being of future healthcare professionals.”

The association has requested the MP government to “immediately revise” the month MBBS internship stipend for doctors from Rs 14,337 to Rs 30,000 per month. The medical group also urged to implement the revised stipend uniformly across all government medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh.

Furthermore, it said that the government should ensure timely and regular disbursement of stipend without administrative delays.

In addition, they must establish a mechanism for periodic revision of the internship stipend in accordance with inflation and prevailing national standards, it added.
