Medical colleges must make admission, other details public before December 17: NMC

NEW DELHI: The medical assessment and rating board of the National Medical Commission (NMC) requested all medical colleges to make the information regarding institutions public before December 17. The medical colleges have to fill in the details of the college, number of MBBS and PG broad specialty and super specialty students admitted in the session (2019 to 2021). Total number of rooms in women’s hostel and students accommodated, number of births and deaths reported among other information.

“The medical assessment and rating board of the National Medical Commission has decided to request the medical colleges to display the information regarding institutions on their websites linked to the National Medical Commission. The details of the information required is given in the pro-forma attached. All colleges are requested to upload the information before December 17, 2021,” the official statement said.

The NMC said that it is mandatory for every college to display the information on the public domain. The medical commission also informed that the details entered by a medical college can not be changed or removed, however, they can update or add important information.

Recently, the Foreign Medical Association of India ( FMAI ) expressed distress towards the new rules by the NMC for obtaining a permanent doctor’s licence in India after studying abroad. As per reports, it claimed that the new rules for students who want to pursue medical education abroad will prevent middle-class aspirants from achieving their dream of becoming doctors.

In another news, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to start 17 new medical colleges with 2,350 MBBS seats. With the addition of new colleges, the total number of medical colleges will be 69, which is the highest number of medical institutions in a state in the country.
