National Girl Child Day 2022: History, theme, celebrations, activities, wishes

NEW DELHI: National Girl Child Day is celebrated every year on January 24 to spread awareness about rights of girls and to create a safe and better environment for them. The Ministry of Women and Child Development initiated the day in 2008.

National Girl Child Day: Celebrations

The Ministry of Culture organized Rangoli Utsav ‘Umang’ to celebrate National Girl Child Day 2022 under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The participants drew rangoli decorations on the roads and squares named after the female freedom fighters or the female role models of the country. The rangoli decorations were made at more than 70 locations in 19 states.

The Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor announced that the government has decided to give 15% reservation in non-gazetted posts of Jammu and Kashmir police. “On #NationalGirlChildDay, approved 15% reservation for women in non-gazetted posts of JmuKmrPolice. This is just the beginning. We are determined and committed to increase it further in the future,” Office of LG tweeted.

Karnataka Youth Congress distributed school bags and books to children.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan: “In the case of domestic violence, we have decided to provide assistance up to ₹ 4 lakhs on bodily harm to the victim woman. One stop center is also being set up to help women: Chief Minister Shri ChouhanShivraj #NationalGirlChildDay.”

“To provide nutritious food and rest to the poor pregnant sisters, we made Sambal Yojana. 4 thousand before the birth of nephews and nieces and 12 thousand rupees are given to sisters after birth,” he added.

He further announced: “I salute those families who did not discriminate against daughters. We are starting a mobile app for Ladli Laxmi daughters, so that they can stay in touch with the government. We will give ₹ 25000 separately to the college going daughters.”

National Girl Child Day 2022: Wishes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet: “National Girl Child Day is an occasion to reiterate our commitment and further strengthen ongoing efforts to empower the girl child. It is also a day to celebrate the exemplary accomplishments of the girl child in different fields.”

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted: “The achievements of our daughters are second to none. Let us cherish and celebrate them. #NationalGirlChildDay, is yet another day to strengthen our commitment to prioritise education and health for the girl child and also ensure equitable opportunities for her growth.”

Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted: “On #NationalGirlChildDay, we celebrate the achievements of the girl child in various fields & their significant contribution in nation building.
