NEET 2019 cutoff for BDS course drops 10 percentile; NTA to release revised result

NEW DELHI, September 7: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in consultation of Dental Council of India (DCI) has revised the cutoff percentile for admission to BDS courses in the upcoming session. In an unprecedented move, the cutoff percentile has been lowered to 10 percentile for reserved category, the general category and for candidates with physical disabilities. The move has been taken in order to fill vacant seats in pursuance of the clause b mentioned in the information brochure of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2019. The score corresponding to the lowered cutoff percentile has also been released by the authority.

The exam conducting authority, National Testing Agency (NTA) has been directed by the ministry to release a revised result in accordance with the lowered cutoff percentile for the academic session of 2019-2020.

Why BDS cutoff was lowered?
The ministry in consultation with DCI has lowered the NEET BDS cutoff in pursuance of the clause b of chapter 6 which deals with merit list and qualifying criteria in NEET based admissions. The information bulletin states “Provided when the sufficient number of candidates in the respective categories fail to secure minimum marks as prescribed in NEET held for any academic year for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses, the Central Government in consultation with...Dental Council of India may at its discretion lower the minimum marks required for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses” The cutoff percentile, abiding by this clause, is lowered for each category along with the scores for the said academic year.

NEET BDS counselling 2019
Medical counselling Committee (MCC) had conducted the second mop-up round for BDS seats offered in Deemed/Central universities from September 2 to 5. The final result for the same was released on September 6. Since the NEET BDS cutoff has been lowered, it is likely that a fresh round of counselling will be conducted allowing candidates to participate in the admission process who were hitherto considered ineligible.
