NEET PG 2021 postponed by 4 months: PMO

NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) today, May 3, announced that National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2021 has been postponed by four months. As per the latest update, NEET PG 2021 exam will not be conducted before August 31.

The release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) reads, “A decision was taken to postpone NEET-PG for at least 4 months and the exam will not be held before 31st August 2021.” The release further stated that students will be given at least a month’s time after the announcement of the NEET PG 2021 exam date. After announcement of NEET PG 2021 exam date, authorities will release the admit card for registered candidates at nbe.edu.in .

The decision was taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cater to the growing need of healthcare workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. With the postponement of NEET PG 2021, more doctors will be available for COVID duties. NEET PG 2021 was earlier scheduled to be conducted on April 18. However, due to the surge in COVID-19 cases and multiple requests by aspirants, authorities postponed NEET PG .

Final year MBBS students to be deployed in COVID-19 duties

As per the release, medical interns as a part of their rotatory internship will be deployed for COVID management duties. Final year MBBS students will also be used for monitoring of mild COVID-19 cases and teleconsultation to reduce the workload on doctors engaged in COVID-19 duties. Additionally, BSc/GNM qualified nurses may be deployed for full-time COVID nursing duties in ICU.

The PMO statement also states that state/UT governments shall reach out to NEET candidates to assist in COVID-19 duties. “The State/UT Governments are to make all efforts to reach out to each such prospective NEET candidates and request them to join the Covid – 19 workforce in this hour of need. The services of these MBBS doctors can be utilized in the management of COVID – 19,” the statement read.

Incentives to COVID-19 workforce

As per government notice, candidates assisting in COVID-19 duties for a minimum of 100 days will be awarded the Prime Minister’s Distinguished Covid National Service Samman. Further, all health professionals will be covered under the governments’ insurance scheme.
