NEET Result 2021: Supreme Court hearing on re-exam for two candidates today

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court will today hear the plea by the National Testing Agency (NTA) against the Bombay High Court order asking it not to declare the NEET Results 2021 and conduct re-examination for two aspirants.

The NTA on Monday sought an urgent hearing in the top court on its plea against the high court stay order. Though the hearing was listed yesterday, the apex court adjourned the hearing till today.

The NTA had said that the NEET 2021 results for over 16 lakh students who gave the exam were ready for declaration, however, due to the high court’s order, it has not been able to declare NEET UG 2021 results. It further said that the delay will affect the subsequent admission process to undergraduate medical courses i.e. MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS Courses. The NEET 2021 was held on September 12.

The NEET-UG test booklet and OMR sheet of two medical aspirants -- Vaishanavi Bhopali and Abhishek Shivaji – got mixed up at the examination centre before the start of the test and ordered that they be given a fresh opportunity to appear. After hearing the petition on October 20, the Bombay High Court had directed the NTA to hold re-exam for these two candidates whose question papers and OMR sheets got mixed at a centre in Maharashtra.

In a recent development, the Kerala High Court has ordered a probe in an alleged OMR sheet scam in NEET UG 2021 exam. It has asked the NTA to probe and submit the report by November 8, as per reports.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking cancellation of NEET 2021 exam after NEET paper leak reports surfaced. NEET aspirants also requested for conducting fresh NEET exams to ensure "fairness and justice".
