NEW DELHI: A document circulating as a notification of National Medical Commission (NMC) claiming exam in December 2022, change in syllabus and subject-wise marks distribution in National Exit Test (NExT) for MBBS graduates is fake, the Commission clarified.

The notice claims that NMC has issued new guidelines for NExT according to which subjects and marks distribution will change and candidates will have to follow a new structure.

“It is informed to all that the below attached document is fake and is not issued by EMRB (NMC). All concerned may kindly take notice of this,” NMC said in an official notification.

The fake notice claimed that all 19 subjects in new Medical Council of India (MCI) curriculum will be included in NExT syllabus and subject-wise marks distribution will be changed drastically from National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) PG exam or MCI Screening exam (Foreign Medical Graduate Exam). The clinical subjects will carry more marks than pre and para-clinical subjects, it said.

The fake notification further claimed that there will be a total of 240 multiple choice questions (MCQs) in NEXT. About the marking scheme, it said that for each correct answer, 4 marks will be awarded and one mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

The Union Health Ministry said last year that efforts are underway to ensure that the National Exit Test (NExT) is conducted in the first half of 2023 and a mock-run is also being planned in 2022 to test the procedure and remove anxiety among medical students.

NExT will be a common eligibility and entrance exam for admission to post-graduate medical courses and for obtaining licence to practice. It would also act as a screening test for foreign medical graduates.
