NIRF Ranking 2024: IIT Madras top engineering college for 9th time; IIT Roorkee best in architecture

NIRF 2024 Ranking: IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay have followed IIT Madras to rank in second and third places, respectively, among engineering colleges. IIT Roorkee tops in architecture
NEW DELHI: Once again Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has claimed the top position in National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF Ranking 2024) list of top engineering colleges of India. This is the ninth time IIT Madras has secured the top position, holding it since the inception of the NIRF rankings since 2016. IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur are in the second, third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively, in the rankings this year.

This is the ninth edition of NIRF ranking which includes 15 categories including overall, universities, colleges, medicine, research, innovation, among others. In 2023, agriculture and allied sectors, a new category was introduced in NIRF. This year, three new categories have been added: open universities, skill universities and state-funding public universities. The NIRF ranking 2024 lists were announced by education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan.
NIRF has overall six parameters including teaching and learning resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and peer perception among others. While the rankings are published annually, in 2016, the number of participating colleges were 3,500 which has now increased to 10,885 in 2024, an increase from 2023. Parameters on sustainability will be added from next year onwards.
NIRF Ranking Engineering 2024: Top 10 engineering colleges
IIT Madras has been the top engineering college for the ninth time. This time IIT BHU has secured the tenth position pushing the state-run Jadavpur University in West Bengal out of the top 10.

NIRF Ranking Architecture 2024: IIT Roorkee on top
IIT Roorkee has claimed the top position in NIRF ranking 2024 for architecture. This year IIT Kharagpur pushed National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut to third position, thus securing second position. This is the third year in a row when the three institutes have retained their positions as the top architecture institutes in India.
Indian Institute of Engineering and Science and Technology ( IIEST Shibpur ) has secured fourth position with a jump from tenth position from last year. The School of Planning and Architecture New Delhi holds the same rank as last year.
