NMC approves 2 new medical colleges in Bihar, grants 100 MBBS seats

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued Letters of Permission (LoPs) for the establishment of two new medical colleges in Bihar. Government Medical College, Chhapra (Saran), and Shri Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital, Samastipur have been permitted to admit 50 MBBS seats each for the academic year 2026-27. The permissions were issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) in compliance with the decisions of the Second Appeal Committee. NEET UG Counselling 2026 LIVE updates.

Applications had earlier been submitted to the NMC seeking approval for an annual intake of 100 MBBS seats at each college. Following the assessment and appeal process, the NMC granted permission for 50 seats at each institution for 2026-27. The Letter of Permission for Shri Ram Janki Medical College & Hospital, Samastipur, was issued on September 3, 2026.

The NMC also issued the LoP for Government Medical College, Chhapra (Saran), located at Mala in Sadar block of Saran district, on the same date.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary welcomed the approvals and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister JP Nadda. He said the move would help expand medical education in the state, strengthen healthcare facilities, and create new opportunities for students.

With the two colleges receiving permission to begin MBBS admissions, students from Samastipur, Saran, and nearby areas will have additional opportunities to pursue medical education closer to home. The expansion is also expected to strengthen the availability of trained medical professionals in the state.
