Odisha schools to be closed due to heatwave from April 18 to 20

Several X users advised the Odisha government to start online classes or advance the summer vacation of schools as temperature will continue to rise.
NEW DELHI: Schools in Odisha will be closed from three days from April 18 to 20 due to heatwave in the state. The Odsiha government said government, government-aided and private schools will be closed for three days in view of the summer heat and rising temperature. The state is experiencing scorching heat as temperature in several cities was recorded above 40 degree celsius.
Several users on X, formerly known as Twitter, also asked the Odisha government to close the colleges. A user, Amarendra Mishra, questioned, “What about +2 (Class 12) students in composite college? Will they come to college or not? What about their staff?”
Mousam Mehena said, “Pl (please) think about college students also. There is a great increase in temperature.”
Many X users also advised the government to start online classes or advance the date of summer vacation. “Start regular online classes or start early summer vacation. More importantly do not destabilise students and teachers by opening and closing schools for two or three days,” X user Debashish K Biswal said.

Another X user, Damodar Panda, said, “Heat will increase day by day. So it's a sincere request to declare holiday (vacations) till June. Advise all the schools to conduct online classes.”
Odisha is reeling under an intense heatwave. Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district recorded the highest temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius yesterday. Baripada recorded a maximum temperature of 41.4 degrees Celsius on Monday. The town was the hottest place in the state for the second consecutive day. Mercury levels soared to over 42 degrees Celsius at five places in the state yesterday.
