Odisha's Vikram Deb Autonomous College gets university status
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the proposal for upgradation on February 2. College is celebrating platinum jubilee today, tomorrow.

NEW DELHI : The Odisha government has granted university status to Vikram Deb Autonomous College located in Jeypore. State chief minister Naveen Patnaik approved the proposal of the upgradation of college into a university on February 2. The institute is celebrating its platinum jubilee today and tomorrow where Patnaik has been invited as a chief guest.
“In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) and (2) of Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Odisha Act 5 of 1989), the State Government do hereby alter the territorial jurisdiction of Berhampur University by establishing a new University called the Vikram Dev University at Jeypore, Koraput, Odisha with effect from the date of notification in the Odisha gazette,” read an official notification.

As the government announced its decision to upgrade the college into a university, state ministers and students shared their joy.
A student wrote on Twitter, “Thank you @Naveen_Odisha Sir for upgradation of Vikram Deb auto College, Jeypore into an University. Best wishes to all as specially Undivided #KoraputDist”

Taraprasad Bahinipati, MLA, shared the notification and said in a tweet, “Thank you to the Chief Minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik for fulfilling the long-standing demand and dream of the people of my region including me to grant the status of university to the pride of undivided Koraput District.”

Professor Achyutananda Samanta, MP, tweeted, “Scripting a milestone in the field of higher education system in south Odisha, Hon’ble Chief Minister Naveen_Odisha has approved a proposal to accord university status to the famous Vikram Deb College in Jeypore.”
