Pondicherry University said that the college has not been granted affiliation since 2019 due to lack of infrastructure, facilities to run.
NEW DELHI: Pondicherry University has warned students against seeking admission in unaffiliated Usha Latchumanan College of Education, saying the college has not been granted affiliation since 2019. “Usha Latchumanan College of Education, Thirukannur, Puducherry has not been granted affiliation for the academic years 2019 – 2020, 2020 – 2021 and 2021 – 2022 since they do not have the required infrastructure and facilities to run the college of education,” a statement from Pondicherry University said.

Further, National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has also issued a show cause notice to the College for its non-compliance on certain issues, the university statement said.
Pondicherry University informed that the Madras High Court has dismissed the writ petition filed by the College against Pondicherry University and NCTE for affiliation.
According to university’s statement, Madras High Court observed in its proceedings dated September 7, 2021 that “Taking into consideration the facts and circumstances and the serious deficiencies that have been pointed out against the petitioner institution both by the NCTE as well as the Pondicherry University, this court does not find any ground to interfere with the decision taken by the NCTE and Pondicherry University. The institution cannot be allowed to function in this manner and it will make the future of all those budding teachers uncertain. There are absolutely no merits in both the writ petitions and the attempt of the petitioner institution seems to be to get some interim order from this Court every time and continue to run the institution. Such a practice has to be put to an end by this Court”.
