Post-Matric SC Scholarship: Ministry asks UGC, AICTE to ensure PMS scholarship renewals match new registration

Ministry asks UGC, AICTE to issue appropriate advisories to all colleges to share details with PM SC Scholarship beneficiaries to improve registration.
NEW DELHI: The ministry of social justice has observed that the number of renewal of Post Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Caste (SC) students does not match with the fresh registrations done every year. In a step to plug the gaps, the ministry has directed the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to advise scholarship holders to renew immediately.

The ministry said, “It has been observed by the Ministry that the number of renewal cases are not matching upto the expectations as well as with the fresh registrations done every year. The Ministry is taking various steps to plug out such gaps.”
It further requested UGC, AICTE to issue appropriate advisories to all educational institutions, universities, colleges so that regular meetings are convened under the nodal officers and information is shared with all concerned beneficiaries so that maximum number of students apply.
It also directed to use social media to spread awareness about the Post Matric Scholarship for SC students.
The Centrally Sponsored Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC students is the largest welfare scheme of the ministry whose benefits are extended to lakhs of SC students.

The scholarship aims to improve the gross enrollment ratio-and thereby raising the educational status-of poor SC students in the country.
