NEW DELHI: Reopening of schools in Rajasthan has been postponed and the decision to reopen the schools will be taken by chief minister Ashok Gehlot in the next two or three days, said Rajasthan education minister Govind Dotasra in a social media post on Saturday. Earlier, the state government had decided to reopen the schools shut due to COVID-19 from August 2.

The state government discussed all aspects of the matter in the meeting of the cabinet committee which was formed to prepare standard operating procedures (SOP) and decided to postpone the reopening of schools. Rajasthan had closed schools in April 2021 just as COVID-19 cases were surging in the devastating second wave of the pandemic.

Govind Dotasra wrote, “After discussing all the aspects in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee constituted to prepare a detailed SOP regarding the opening of the school, the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will decide on the date and nature of the school opening. Both the safety and education of the children are the priority of our government.”

While declaring the board exam results on Saturday -- RBSE 12th result 2021 -- Dotasra said that the state government wants to be cautious about reopening schools in case a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic hits. The RBSE 12th exams were cancelled in June.

The decision on reopening of the schools will be taken after detailed standard operating procedures are prepared by the committee. All the guidelines will have to be followed by the schools in the state that may include wearing of masks, maintaining social distancing, thermal scanning and use of sanitizers.
