Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology gets category 1 status of deemed to be University

As per the UGC norms, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology will be able to establish new departments without prior approval.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology category l status of deemed to be university. The status has been granted as per the provisions of the UGC Regulations, 2018.
The category 1 status of deemed to be university will be accredited to institutes that has been awarded a 3.51 or above score by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It is also given to institutions that have received a corresponding accreditation grade/score from a reputed accreditation agency empanelled by the UGC; or ranked among top 500 of reputed world rankings, such as Times Higher Education or QS World Ranking.
The UGC category-1 status will allow the Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology to begin new courses and establish new departments without the prior approval of the UGC.
Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology was given the status of deemed to be university 23 years ago i.e. in 2000. The university aims at attaining excellence in education and research through effective collaboration with Industries and other international and national organisations. It also aims to consistently remain an attractive ecosystem for students and employees, a hub of innovation for researchers and an incubating platform for entrepreneurs and create an inclusive environment that caters to all forms of diversity.

The institution has been ranked in 51st position by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 023 and ranked among the top 100 Universities for eight consecutive years.
