Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin today virtually inaugurated newly-constructed academic buildings worth Rs 59.93 crore across government arts and science colleges in five districts – Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tirupathur, Ariyalur, and Mayiladuthurai.

As part of the state's major push to strengthen higher education infrastructure, the government has built new blocks in several colleges, including Rs 13.71 crore at Cuddalore, Rs 13.92 crore at Villupuram, Rs 14.50 crore at Tirupattur, and Rs 5.60 crore at Ariyalur.

Additional facilities at Rs 2.20 crore under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar College Development Project in Mayiladuthurai.

44 polytechnics to be upgraded

During the event, the Chief Minister also witnessed the signing of an agreement with Tata Technologies to upgrade 44 government polytechnic colleges to be designated as “Centres of Excellence” in line with world-class Industry 4.0 standards.

The Rs 2,590.30 crore project aims to modernise infrastructure, develop advanced curricula, improve teacher training, and increase career-oriented employment opportunities for students.

CM issues 213 appointment letters for teaching posts

Additionally, appointment orders were issued to 213 teaching and academic staff, including 190 assistant professors, 12 assistant librarians and 11 assistant physical education directors, recruited through the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), followed by an interview conducted by Anna University.

The government highlighted recent initiatives, such as Tamil Pudhalvan, Naan Mudhalvan, and Puthumai Penn, as well as enhanced research support and infrastructure development across colleges and universities, which have strengthened Tamil Nadu’s position as a leading state in higher education in India.

Minister for Higher Education of Tamil Nadu, Govi Chezhiaan, Chief Secretary to Government, N Muruganandam, Secretary to Government, P Shankar, Anna University officials and top executives of Tata Technologies attended the event.
