Team Orion Racing clinches the F1 in Schools India National Finals

Team Orion Racing from Scottish High International School, Gurgaon, emerged victorious at the F1 in Schools India finals held at Amity University, Noida. The second and third positions were secured by team Matadors, Amity International School, Saket and team Stallion, British School, Gurgaon respectively. The three teams will represent India at the World Finals in November 2019 at Abu Dhabi which will be contested by teams from 49 countries.

This was the second season of the F1 in Schools India finals which has become the largest Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) challenge for students in the country. It witnessed the participation of 80 teams, consisting of 3-6 members each from schools in Bangalore, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai that qualified the regional rounds.

Spanning an age range of 9 to 19, F1 in Schools aims to create a learning environment for the students to develop an informed view on careers in engineering, science, marketing and Formula One. Through the competition, the students learn to make a business plan, manage budgets, and raise sponsorships to fund their research, travel and accommodation. The platform encourages students to design miniature air-powered F1 cars using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines and Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. These cars are then pitted against each other in a 24-metre track to determine the fastest one. The competition considers all-round performance among other aspects to judge the winners.

The winners were keenly looking forward to competing with peers from across the globe. “ This is our first time in this competition and we can’t wait for the World Finals to begin. We hope to prove ourselves and prove that our country has the potential to win it,” said Aryan, Team Manager, Orion Racing.

The In-Country chief for F1 Schools in India Yashraj Singh felicitated the winners at the event. “The objective of the event is to encourage skill-based learning and to create a culture of Research and development among the students,” said Singh.
