Use NowIn a historic decision, the Telangana government has announced 85% reservation for local students in management quota seats in postgraduate courses offered by private medical colleges across the state. Chief minister Revanth Reddy took the decision after health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha's request.
As a result, around 318 PG medical and 70 dental seats will be available for Telangana students, the health minister informed. CM Reddy has directed the health secretary to issue a Government Order (GO) immediately.
Until now, all MQ seats in Telangana medical colleges were filled under the All India Quota (AIQ) category. From now on, the government will allocate 85% of seats to Telangana's children, Narsimha said.

He stated that this decision will hugely benefit thousands of MBBS graduates aspiring for PG medical seats. Compared to MBBS, PG seats are fewer in number, leading to intense competition for them, he noted. Until now, without a quota for Telangana students in the management quota seats, students from other states have been coming here to pursue their PG degrees, he explained.

The health minister said that changes have been made to the seat allocation rules in response to the requests of the doctors. From now on, 85 percent of seats in the management quota and 100 percent of seats in the convenor quota will go exclusively to students from our state, the minister elaborated. “As a result, the number of specialist doctors in the state will increase, thereby providing better medical services to the public,” he added.
