TN political parties oppose Surappa’s appointment as Anna University VC, calls him ‘Outsider’

NEW DELHI, APRIL 6: Some of the regional political parties in Tamil Nadu has opposed the appointment of Prof M. K. Surappa as the Vice Chancellor of Anna University by calling him an ‘Outsider’
MK Stalin DMK Working President has warned the Governor of Tamil Nadu against saffronizing universities in the state while PMK founder S Ramadoss has said that students will be mobilized to protest against the appointment of VC.
The Anna University has been running without a full-time Vice Chancellor for over two years since the term of Dr. M. Rajaram ended in March 2016. following that three search committees were formed to appoint the new VC.
M.K. Surappa has been appointed as the full-time VC for a tenure of three years by the Governor of State Banwarilal Purohit in his capacity as the Chancellor.
Surappa is also an alumnus of the IISc Bengaluru and currently, serving as the honorary professor, Department of Materials Engineering, IISC Bengaluru.
On the other-hand academicians and the teachers association in the University have welcomed Prof Surappa’s appointment to the post of VC. Citing his role as the founding Director of the IIT Ropar academicians have been praising his excellent work which resulted in IIT Ropar emerging as one of the most sought engineering institutions in the country.
