UGC has directed HEIs to integrate SWAYAM MOOCs, identify relevant online courses, finalise credit transfer, and ask students to register before the deadline for July 2026 semester
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has requested higher education institutions (HEIs) to identify and integrate relevant SWAYAM Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) into their academic programmes for the July 2026 semester. UGC has also directed institutions to ensure that students complete their registrations within the deadlines specified by the national coordinators.
The government of India’s SWAYAM, India’s national online learning platform, offers high-quality online courses across a wide range of disciplines, supporting the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by encouraging multidisciplinary learning, academic flexibility, and wider learner choice, allowing students to earn academic credits.
The commission also highlighted that under the UGC’s Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM regulations, HEIs may allow students to take up to 40% of the total courses offered in a particular course in a semester through online credit courses available on the SWAYAM platform.
