UGC invites application for skill-based courses

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited application from universities and colleges to run skill-based courses, for the academic year 2020-21. UGC will also provide financial assistance to institutions planning to offer these vocational programmes.
The commission has asked institutions to submit applications to offer skill-based certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, B.Voc (Bachelor of Vocation), Postgraduate Diploma, M.Voc (Master of Vocation) and research level programmes from the forthcoming academic year 2020-2021.
The institutions have been asked to submit their online application on the UGC website before June 30.
The UGC has revised the guidelines for providing skill-based education under National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). As per the revised guidelines, only those institutions will be eligible for financial assistance which come under Section 12 B of the UGC Act and are eligible to receive development grant from the commission.
UGC will provide one-time start-up assistance to institutions for starting fresh courses for developing the infrastructure, setting up of laboratories, procurement of teaching and learning materials, etc. Institutions which receive an extension of their programs will also be eligible for financial assistance for faculty recruitment.
