UGC invites proposals for ODL Programmes from Universities

NEW DELHI, MARCH 29: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited applications from the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) interested in offering Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes for the next academic session, beginning July 2018.

The interested institutions are required to submit the online application between April 2 and May 1, 2018. Further, the institutions also need to send certified hard copies of the application and other annexures to the UGC DEB office within 10 working days of online submission.

The HEIs who had applied earlier submitted the application form for the ODL programmes, during the period July-October 2017, need to apply afresh.

The earlier applications have been cancelled. In a public notice of February 2018, the UGC mentions, “The process initiated for recognition of distance learning programmes of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) under which applications were invited during August-October, 2017 stands cancelled. No separate communication in this regard will be sent to individual higher educational institution.”

Who are eligible?
The HEIs which have valid accreditation of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with minimum CGPA of 3.26 on a 4 point scale and have completed five years of existence are eligible to apply.

However, this clause shall not be applicable to Open Universities till the time they become eligible for NAAC accreditation.

Further, it shall be mandatory for Open Universities to get NAAC accreditation within one year of their becoming eligible for the same.
