University of Hyderabad drops in QS World University Rankings 2027; still among 'global elite', says UoH

Following its QS World University Rankings 2027 performance, UoH will focus on research excellence, global collaborations, curriculum upgrades and attracting international students and faculty
The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been ranked among the world's top higher education institutions in the latest QS World University Rankings 2027, further strengthening its reputation as one of India's leading public universities.
According to the rankings released by QS, UoH has been placed in the 851–900 band globally. The 2027 rankings evaluated 1,500 universities across more than 100 countries and regions, with 98 institutions making their debut in this year's list.
The ranking reflects the university's performance across a range of indicators, including research output, academic reputation, sustainability, teaching quality and international collaboration. UoH scored 48.1 in Citations per Faculty, 53.4 in Sustainability and 28.9 in International Research Network.
Strong showing in research indicators
Research continues to be one of the university's key strengths. Its score of 48.1 in Citations per Faculty highlights the influence and reach of research produced by its faculty members and scholars.
The university also earned a sustainability score of 53.4, reflecting its emphasis on environmentally responsible practices and research initiatives. Meanwhile, its International Research Network score of 28.9 points to growing collaboration with researchers and institutions across the world.
Faculty strength and academic performance
On the academic front, the university received a score of 17.1 in Academic Reputation. One of its strongest performances came in the faculty qualifications category, where it scored 98.1 for the proportion of staff holding PhDs.
Other indicators included Faculty-Student Ratio (18.5), Employment Outcomes (6.1), Employer Reputation (5.6), International Student Ratio (2.4) and International Faculty Ratio (1.8), offering a broader picture of the university's standing on global benchmarks.
Focus on international growth
Commenting on the achievement, J. Anuradha, Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) of the University of Hyderabad, said, "Maintaining our footing on the global stage in the QS World Rankings is a testament to the tireless dedication of our faculty, researchers, and students. As an Institution of Eminence, we see rankings as an outcome of our core academic values rather than our singular objective.

“Moving forward, we are actively addressing the structural challenges shared by many Indian public universities—such as expanding our international research networks and optimizing our faculty-to-student ratios. We are investing heavily in a revamped curriculum, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and strategic international partnerships to translate Hyderabad's growth as an innovation hub into greater global academic competitiveness," she said further.
Plans for the next phase
It is leveraging the support received under its Institution of Eminence (IoE) status to expand high-impact research, pursue international patents and enhance its global academic footprint.
It also aims to attract a more diverse community of international students and faculty members. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to strengthen research, innovation and academic excellence while improving its position in the global higher education landscape.
