NEW DELHI: Apex technical education regulator, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is planning to punish institutions that share teachers. Taking a serious note of this malpractice, the council has sought details of faculty from engineering and management institutions after many engineering colleges were found doing this.
The AICTE has issued a circular asking institutions for details and has advised them that as per the regulations, faculty members cannot be employed at two locations simultaneously. AICTE Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, the council’s chairman, told Careers360 : “We caught many of the engineering colleges in this practice and we have also found many management institutions doing this where the same faculty was shown as full-time faculty at two different places.” He went on to say that if some institution is found doing this, they will be penalised.
‘Total cheating’
Different institutions run by the same private management group have been found to share faculty most. The AICTE requires each institution to have its own set of teachers and other resources in place. The AICTE circular says: "It has come to the notice of the council that some institutes offering programmes /courses in technical education after the receipt of Extension of Approval (E0A) from the council is indulging in the practice of sharing of faculty members amongst institutes under the same parent organization / outside.”
Council in its circular has said that if the complaint of sharing of faculty is found correct, it will take “strong disciplinary action” against the institute which could include withdrawal of approval.
