NEW DELHI: The seven older Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have decided not to participate in this year’s World University Rankings by the London-based agency, Times Higher Education (THE). The IITs said they had doubts over the ranking parameters and transparency in the process.
IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee issued a joint statement saying that they have decided not to participate in the THE- World University Rankings 2020.
As per the joint statement, these IITs will reconsider their decision next year if Times Higher Education is able to convince them about the parameters and transparency in their ranking process.
Interestingly, three of the seven IITs have been granted Institution of Eminence (IoE) status, and the primary goal of the IoE status is to get into the top 500 in the global rankings.
In the last year’s Ranking, none of the Indian institution could figure among the top 300 globally.
