Akhilesh Mishra takes charge as NIOS chairman; reviews Vidya Samiksha Kendra, teacher training initiatives

The new NIOS chairman met senior officials and department heads at the headquarters, reviewed academic and administrative activities, and discussed future plans.
Akhilesh Mishra has taken charge as chairman of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). After assuming office, he held a meeting with all Heads of Departments at the NIOS headquarters in Noida and reviewed the academic and administrative projects currently underway.

During the meeting, Mishra assessed the progress of the six-month bridge course being conducted for primary school teachers appointed with Bachelor of Education (BEd) qualifications. He highlighted the need to make the course inclusive, raise its quality, and ensure that the study material remains practical and accessible.
“Professor Mishra laid special emphasis on making this course more inclusive, of higher quality, and ensuring that the learning material is practical and easily accessible,” the official press release said. He also reviewed the functioning of NIOS’s Regional Centres located across the country and discussed plans to introduce new programmes for learners enrolled with the institute.

NIOS, which provides secondary, senior secondary and vocational education to learners, is the largest open schooling system in the world. Mishra held discussions on the work of the ‘Vidya Samiksha Kendra’ set up at the NIOS headquarters and its proposed activities.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the institute, all Heads of Departments, and other senior officials. Mishra said NIOS has a role in meeting the targets of the National Education Policy 2020 and will continue to offer flexible education options.
