Assam to reopen schools, colleges from September first week

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that schools for Class 12, colleges for PG courses will resume offline classes from September first week.

NEW DELHI: The Assam government has decided to reopen schools for Class 12 and colleges for postgraduate students from the first week of September, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on social media.

The decision of school reopening and college reopening was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister on Thursday. Several other key initiatives were taken during the meeting.

“In the weekly #AssamCabinet today, we took several key decisions regarding reopening of educational institutions, assistance to sportspersons, boosting PWD Building assets, speeding up jaljeevan_ Mission work, providing employment, etc,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a social media post.

While several states have reopened schools considering a dip in COVID-19 cases, states like Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Puducherry, and Telangana have also decided to reopen colleges from September 1 for offline classes.

Maharashtra and West Bengal governments are mulling over the decision of reopening colleges.

Punjab and Goa have already resumed physical classes in colleges for students.
