Existing centres of legal education must complete applications for extension or renewal of approval by July 31, 2026, to avoid disruption in admissions.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has given existing Centres of Legal Education (CLEs) a final opportunity to complete their applications for extension or renewal of approval for existing law courses and sanctioned sections by July 31, 2026. The council said the move has been taken to prevent disruptions in admissions and safeguard the interests of students seeking admission to law programmes.
In a notification, the BCI said it had observed that several existing law colleges had either not submitted the required applications or had left them incomplete by failing to upload mandatory documents, furnish necessary details, pay the applicable fee or rectify deficiencies pointed out through the online portal, email or other communication channels.
The BCI noted that it has, from time to time, issued notifications detailing the procedure, fee structure, timelines and regulatory requirements for registration and submission of applications by universities and centres of legal education seeking extension or renewal of approval for existing law courses and sanctioned intake.
The council also said the applicable fee structure, resolutions, circulars and refund policy are available on its official website. As per the notified fee structure, every centre of legal education is required to pay a one-time, non-refundable portal registration fee of Rs 50,000.

The BCI urged all existing law colleges to use this final opportunity to complete the application process within the prescribed timeline to ensure continuity of approvals and avoid any adverse impact on students and the upcoming admission process.
