BHU launches International Visiting Student Programme scheme for scholars

NEW DELHI: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched a new scheme titled ‘International Visiting Student Program’ for the outstanding students of the institute. The scheme will facilitate the students who have scored a GPA of 8.0 or above to conduct their research work in a reputed global institution located abroad.

In addition to a mandatory score of 8.0 or above, the students should also have at least two papers published in the journal of international repute in their respective discipline, which will make them eligible for the program.

On their return to India, they will also be provided an economy class return ticket, visa fee and health insurance, if the need may be. The scheme is aimed at fostering networking, facilitating collaborative research and strengthening institutional ties.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain said during the launch of the scheme that BHU is committed to enable its researchers to achieve greater heights in life. He added that with the help of the scheme, the outstanding PhD students of the university will have an opportunity to compete internationally.

According to the scheme, which falls in line with the mandates of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), the eligible students will get to spend one semester overseas in top 500 institutions of the world. During their stay, the students will receive a consolidated fellowship amount of 1,800$ per month and travel within the host country for attending conferences or other issues of interest.
