Applications open for contractual Assistant Professor posts in Bihar's state universities and Rajkiya Degree Colleges; interviews begin from July 20

The Bihar State University Service Commission (BSUSC) has started the application process for the Assistant Professor (contractual faculty) posts on the HED Bihar Samarth portal at hedbiharrec.samarth.edu.in. The last date to apply is July 15, 2026. To submit the application form, applicants do not need to submit any fee.
The recruitment initiative is being conducted to appoint contractual faculty members in 10 state universities and 211 newly established Rajkiya Degree Colleges across Bihar. The vacancies are available in six subjects belonging to the arts and humanities discipline.
The BSUSC has announced vacancies in English, History, Hindi, Economics, Political Science, and Sociology. Among these, English has the highest number of openings with 674 posts, followed by History (662) and Hindi (625). Economics has 597 vacancies, while Political Science offers 596 posts. Sociology has 533 vacancies, taking the total number of advertised positions across all six subjects to 3,687.

Candidates applying for the posts must hold a Master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 55 per cent marks. However, candidates belonging to the SC, ST, BC, EBC and PwD categories of Bihar are eligible with a minimum of 50 per cent marks.
Apart from the educational qualification, applicants must have qualified UGC NET, CSIR NET or Bihar SET. Candidates who have been awarded a PhD in accordance with the UGC 2009 or 2016 Regulations are exempt from the NET qualification requirement.

The minimum age prescribed for the recruitment is 21 years, while the upper age limit is 43 years as on August 1, 2026. Eligible candidates from reserved categories will be given age relaxation as per the applicable recruitment norms.
The selection process will be based on academic performance and an interview-cum-demonstration. Academic qualifications will carry 88 marks, whereas the interview-cum-demonstration will account for the remaining 12 marks.
